The body of a thirty year old former underground cadre shot dead by unidentified gunmen was found early this morning in front of the newly constructed Nongpok Sekmai Community Health Centre located about six kilometres from Yairipok police station, said sources.
The victim has been identified as one Yenshenbam Sunboro (30) of Lamboikhongnangkhong under Lamphel police station.
The victim received bullet wounds on the chest, stomach, back and hands.
A gunny bag was also found near the victim's body.
According to family members, the deceased Sunboro was a former member of the proscribed underground outfit People's Liberation Army (PLA) and had been arrested about four times by the security forces in the past.
He had been living a normal life for the last five/six years after severing all ties with the underground outfit, maintained the deceased's family.
They further informed that Sunboro went missing since leaving his house on July 29 to meet some persons.
The body which was retrieved by a team of Yairipok police personnel was later handed over to family members after completion of post mortem at Lilong PHC today.
According to locals of Nongpok Sekmai, the victim is suspected to have been abandoned in the area after being shot dead at another place as no gunshots were heard in the area last night.
Meanwhile, locals of Naranseina thrashed a youth who was allegedly trying to extort money from the area last night at around 7.30 pm.
The severely beaten up youth has been identified as Irengbam Sunil alias Micheal alias Loya (26) s/o Gobardhon of Kumbi Terakhong Mayai Leikai.
He was later handed over to Moirang PS.
