At a time when Imphal College teachers started changing ideas into action by cogitating amongst themselves to bring a change in collegiate education of the State, Government discouraged the teachers by bringing back their bete noire Principal T Thoiba to the college, conveyed president of Imphal College Teachers' Association, N Sulochana during a press meet conducted at the college.
Sulochana said that as a part of the new venture, teachers initiated a move called "Teachers Movement for Self Initiative" with an aim to ensure that colleges are the real 'Temples of Learning'.
Teachers decided to work with devotion, she added, and for that the college constituted an 'Academic Council', and appointed Dean of Science, Dean of Arts and Dean of Students' Welfare.
Teachers are now keen to break the stereotype notion that Government teachers want only salary and shy away from their duties, Sulochana added.
At this juncture, T Thoiba who was shifted to another institute from Imphal College some time back following complaints from teachers and students is back again on May 29 with a Government order.
Sulochana asserted that Thoiba being a tested man, teachers boycotted his administration since May 29 itself.
The teachers also boycotted University practical exams for 1st and 2nd years, she added.
Detailing on Thoiba's administration, Sulochana said that during his first tenure, he withdrew Rs 3, 59, 000 in connection with the construction of ladies hostel by forging signatures of the teachers who are in the Construction Committee.
T Thoiba witnessed cases of drug abuse, snatching of gold chain and torching of college building during his tenure.
He could not control all such activities inside the college campus, she said and added that a student from Thoubal attempted to end life by jumping down from the college building demanding proper learning.
Sulochana also urged the Govt to transfer the said person from Imphal College.
