Imphal, May 31:
In a scathing attack on the ruling Congress party, MPP today expressed strong apprehension that Manipur may become a defeated cause in case the present trend of administration under the SPF Government led by Congress party continues.
This was stated by MPP president Dr L Chandramani while addressing a political conference of the party at Tendongyang community hall under Lamshang A/C.Dr Chandramani asserted that the highly insecure situation being endured by the people and abject administrative failure on all fronts evoke the question whether the Manipuri nation can survive for long.
Under the prevailing circumstances, only a collective movement by all ethnic groups of the State can redeem the future of the land, he asserted.
Calling upon the people to introspect whether the Congress party has been able to deliver the promises it made to the people at the time of elections after more than 18 months, the MPP president asked whether the SPF Government led by O Ibobi has taken up anything substantial except for some normal programmes.
On the other hand, during the tenure of MPP as ruling party with Alimuddin as Chief Minister, the party established RIMS, Manipur University, Government Polytechnic, Board of Secondary Education, Employees' Pay Commission and Law Commission, Chandramani claimed.
It was also during the tenure of MPP that a general amnesty was declared to bring all rebels to mainstream in 1972 .
Observing that Congress candidate has won two consecutive terms in Lamshang A/C, Chandramani asked whether the Congress MLA has done anything tangible for the welfare of the people.
The political conference was specifically organised in the Assembly constituency to discuss the political indecisiveness prevailing in the constituency, he said.
The MPP president highlighted the importance of entrusting power to a regional party like the MPP in order to bring about a welfare society in the State.
Economics Professor N Muhindro while noting that the identity and culture of the Manipuri nation were getting assimilated with the dominant mainstream culture and identity under the existing administration, pledged that MPP would put in all efforts to preserve the unique culture and identity of Manipur.
The twin problem of withering Government schools and increasing culture of depending on private tuitions have been not only distorting the characteristics of educational institutions but also causing economic hardships, he observed.
He further accused the Ministers of presenting the State as a land of criminals.
The conference was also addressed by former Union Minister Th Chaoba and MPP MLA Dr Ng Bijoy.
