Imphal, May 31:
With both the UPA Government at the Centre and the SPF Government at the State unable to inform in detail and sensitise the people thoroughly about various development programmes taken up in the State, people's confidence in the Congress party and SPF Government has been gradually waning, conceded MPCC president Gaikhangam.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Gaikhangam stressed on the necessity to inform the people thoroughly about various welfare programmes taken up by the Government.
As the people have limited knowledge about all these development projects and welfare schemes, the Government is losing confidence and faith of the people, he asserted.
Along with taking several development programmes for the State, the State Government should study the response of the people to all these initiatives and try to understand the wish and expectations of the people from the incumbent Government, he stated.
Even as the Congress party by its position as ruling party implemented various policies and programmes for development of the State, there were always dissatisfaction and regrets at the time of elections, noted the MPCC president.
There seems to be big gap between the Government and the people.
It appears that there is little communication on whether the people are satisfied with the development initiatives of the Government or whether there is any lapse or flaw in the policies and programmes of the Govt etc, Gaikhangam observed.
It is imperative to communicate with the people so that all the lapses and flaws may be rectified according to the wish and satisfaction of the people, he asserted.
Reminding that the Congress party is a party constituted by people, he stressed on the need to discuss the activities of the party/Govt with political workers.
To assess and discuss the activities of the Government, the Congress party has kickstarted block level workers' conference, he informed.
The block level workers' conference which commenced on May 10 will be held in 60 blocks.
After block level conference is over, district level workers' conference would be organised and this would be followed by State level workers' conference in conjunction with the party's preparation for Lok Sabha elections, Gaikhangam conveyed while seeking people's participation in all these conferences.
