Imphal, May 29 2011:
Industries Minister Y Erabot has clarified that he was only trying to rescue a brother and sister who happened to be elections agents when some people tried to abduct them last night.
He also denounced the practice of issuing licensed guns to contractors liberally as well as the act of opening fire indiscriminately.
Speaking to media persons at his residence today, Erabot said that he was informed in time when some people tried to abduct Samuel Maring (33) and Khambi Maring (17) of New Checkon Maring Lane last night.
"On receiving the information, I immediately went to the couple's house together with police and succeeded in rescuing them", Erabot said.
It was unfortunate that social worker O Henry opened indiscriminate towards the rescue team.
Questioning why gun licences were issued to contractors quite liberally, Erabot strongly condemned the act of brutalising political workers by armed contractors.
Saying that it is the primary duty of a Minister to protect the weak, old and the underprivileged, he rubbished the propaganda that he made an abduction attempt as baseless, devoid of any truth.
"On the contrary, I rescued Khambi and Samuel from the abductors and they are now taking shelter in my house", Erabot claimed.
Lucy Maring said that Khambi Maring and Samuel Maring are siblings.
They acted as election agents for INC candidate Ksh Umesh in the recently held IMC elections.
One Yaima Maring of Waithou Phunal Maring and his cohorts tried to abduct Samuel Maring in a car (Maruti 800).In the nick of time, Erabot arrived at the scene and he tried to prevent Yaima Maring from abducting Samuel.
It was at this time, escort party of social worker O Henry started opening fire in the air which was responded by the Minister's party, Lucy said.
Samuel Maring said that Yaima Maring and his cohorts tried to abduct his younger sister too.
"Suspecting some evil intention I informed Minister Erabot and he rescued me and my sister from the abductors", Samuel said.
