UCM continues campaign for self-reliance in food production

A one day farmers' training programme on 'Rejuvenation of Farm Economy' was held today at Yairipok Bishnunaha organised by United Committee Manipur (UCM) in association with the Agriculture Department.
A press release by UCM said that the farmers' training programme has been organised as a part of its ongoing campaign to strive for a self-reliant State in terms of food production.
As a part of the programme, urea and Ravi crops were distributed to the farmers.
The programme was attended by Kh Sobha Singh, Wangkhem Zilla Parishad Member; Joychandra Konthoujam, president UCM; Th Manihal, Angtha Gram Panchayat Pradhan and Ibotombi Khumancha, Advisor UCM as the presidium members while Likmabam Gorbachov spoke as the resource person.

Presenting the keynote address, UCM General Secretary Ng Deba Meetei appealed to all concerned to form a new farm economy to enhance food productivity in the State to achieve the vision of self-reliance in food production.
He also called for collective efforts to save the agricultural lands of Manipur and to take up measures to maintain the ecological balance.
Speaking at the occasion, Joychandra Konthoujam appealed to all the MLAs and Ministers to fulfil their duties honestly to actualise the vision of self-reliance.
He also appealed to the public leaders to treat everyone fairly and not to politicise distribution of urea or any form of agricultural requirements in the interest of farmers in the State and for their well-being.
A total of 100 urea bags were distributed today, added the release.
