MLA Kebi calls for honouring media's role

The 12th sports meet for journalists organised by All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) every year during Yaoshang Festival kicked off on Friday along with a torch rally carrying the holy flame lit from the sacred Kangla Fort here.
Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA S Kebi, AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai and members of the scribes' union took part in the torch rally from Kangla till Manipur Press Club wherein MLA Kebi unfurled the AMWJU flag and lit up the holy flame.
Regarding the sports meet, MLA S Kebi expressed satisfaction to take part in the inaugural ceremony of journalists' sports meet for the first time and noted that journalists are taking immense responsibility in bringing society to the right path.
Kebi also said that she joined politics to serve the people and called upon the media fraternity to continue contributing their mite towards bringing peace and harmony in the state.
While promising to take part and extend support to activities of AMWJU in future, Kebi said that she emerged victorious in the just concluded election due to support of media fraternity.
She then appealed to people not to pose hindrances to scribes in executing their duties while maintaining that media persons are always working with dedication.
Kebi also promised to work for the welfare of women being a woman representative in the state assembly.
AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai, in his speech at the opening ceremony, said that AMWJU has been organising sports meet every year during Yaoshang festival and this indeed is a platform for scribes to explore their hidden talents.
He then thanked all those who extended help and support for the smooth and successful conduct of the sports meet.
The sports meet will begin with athletic events at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium from Saturday and conclude on March 22 with cricket competition at Luwangpokpa cricket stadium.
