Imphal West Police organises Walk & Run Awareness

Imphal West District Police on Friday organised a Walk and Run Awareness to discourage indulgence in unwanted activities during the Yaoshang (holi) festival.
The Walk and Run Awareness led by SP Imphal West Kshetrimayum Shivkanta started from Kangla Western Gate with participants holding placards inscribed with messages such as 'Don't drink and drive during Yaoshang festival to avoid accident', 'Spread the joy of colours this Holi but with a sense of responsibility,' etc.
The walk passed through Maharani bridge, Pishumthong, Singjamei, Moirangkhom and ended at Kangla Western Gate.
Speaking in connection with the programme, SP Shivkanta highlighted that the state general witnesses many unwanted incidents during 'Yaoshang' festival.
As such to prevent such incidents the programme has been organised to create awareness amongst the public.
Earlier, during the festival there were several cases of drunk driving, molestation and POCSO related incidents.
Hence, IW Police will distribute leaflets to raise awareness about various laws regarding such cases during 'Yaoshang' festival, he added.
The SP further informed that the district police will intensify security measures during the festival and will frequently inspect sites where sports and 'Thabal Chongba' programmes are being held.
Steps will also be taken to ensure accidents are minimised.
Strict action will be taken up against driving under intoxication and traffic violations, the SP elaborated and appealed to the public to follow traffic rules during the festival.
