Senapati, March 18 2022:
Naga People's Organization (NPO), Senapati has sought intervention from Tenyimi People's Organization (TPO) with regard to the SAPO's proposed total bandh from March 21-23 over the issue of long-pending land dispute at Kezoltsa (Koziiri).
In a letter addressed to TPO president Solomon Arow, NPO pointed out that the NH-2 which passes through the jurisdiction of Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) is the lifeline of the entire state of Manipur and more particularly of the neighbouring 5 constituent tribe units of NPO including Mao Poumai, Maram, Thangal and Upper Zeliang of Senapati district, all of which belong to the Tenyimi fold along with the Inpui tribe of Manipur state.
While noting that land disputes among villages and tribes are not uncommon and should be settled amicably and in congenial atmosphere, NPO expressed concern that protesting against Manipur government by imposing total bandh on the National Highway would affect normal life and livelihood of the people who depend on it, resulting in waning of precious goodwill within the Tenyimi family.
Earlier, Southern Angami Public Organization had called a total bandh from March 21-23, 2022 in protest against stationing of Manipur Police at the disputed area which is under arbitration by the board of Arbitrators of the Tenyimi People's Organization (TPO).
A joint representation signed by presidents of TPO, Mao Council, Maram Khullen and SAPO was reportedly submitted to the chief minister of Manipur on November 20 last year to remove Manipur Police from the disputed area.
However, with nb action taken, SAPO called for the total bandh along the National Highway.
In this connection, the president of NPO urged TPO to intervene in the matter so that the faith and confidence on the TPO's leadership and also in the spirit of brotherhood amongst the Tenyimi tribes is upheld while appealing to TPO to expedite settlement of the land dispute at an early date so that such unavoidable situations do not arise in future.
