Sagolband United clinch 63rd CC Meet title

Imphal, March 18 2022:
Sagolband United beat SSU on penalties to win the 63rd Sir Churachand Singh Memorial Invitation Football Trophy 2021-2022 at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium on Friday.
The Sagolband squad started with a bang and were ahead after three minutes when they split the SSU defence wide open and set up Jerry Onesemas to send the ball past the goalkeeper.
In the ensuing exchanges, Sagolband United managed to keep their opponents at bay for almost the entire contest until SSU scored the equaliser in the 82nd minute through Mynamarif.
In the penalty shootout, Sagolband prevailed 3-0 courtesy of successful strikes from Ch Anandkumar, Jerry Onesemas and C Seilenlal to lay their hands on the coveted CC Meet shield.
The champions Sagolband United walked away with Rs 5 lakh in prize money while runners-up SSU received Rs 2.5 lakh.
Mangtinsei Robert of Mu-vanlai Athletics took the top-scorer award, Rocky Khundrakpam of Sagolband United was named the man of the final match, C Seilenlal Mate of Sagolband United claimed the best defender award, N Sushilkumar Singh of SSU was adjudged the best midfielder of the final match, Mynamarif Hussain of SSU walked home with the best striker trophy, Th Lenin Singh of Sagolband United was given the best young player award, L Gunabiir Singh of Sagolband United was honoured with the 'coach of the champion team' award, and Nr Meetei of Sagolband United got the award for the 'manager of the champion team'.
Also, the award for the best referee of the 63rd CC Meet went to T Ranjita Devi (DFA Thoubal) while L Raja Meitei (DFA Imphal East) was named the best assistant referee of the tournament.
During the prize distribution event, winners' trophy of t he 12th AMFA Senior Women's Football League 2021-22 was also handed over to YWC Lanthabal.
