Setting record straight on the stone pelting incident on IOCL tankers at Senapati yesterday, Commandant of 109 Bn CRPF has clarified that in the morning yesterday, the convoy of IOCL/Bullet LPG vehicles which was being escorted by CRPF was stopped at Mao by supporters of Senepati District Village Chief Association (SDVCA) in protest against the decision of government of Manipur to allocate 25% of MGNREGS funds to the district council in Senapati.
On receipt of such information, DIG of CRPF Imphal Range BD Das discussed the matter with IG (L & O) and rushed to the spot with Commandant of 109 BN Premjit Singh along with DC of 69 BN CRPF RV Philip.
After lot of negotiation and persuasion by the CRPF officers including Coy Commander of A/32 BN CRPF deployed at Mao, local SDO and OC, the vehicles were allowed to move further.
However, when the vehicles reached the road between Mao and Tadubi, some miscreants pelted stones on the vehicles from the height.
In the incident, vehicles bearing the registration No.of Manipur were selectively targeted and wind screen/window panes of 40 such vehicles were broken, however, vehicles having the registration No.of Nagaland were spared.
Oil tank of one vehicle was also damaged as some big boulder was thrown on it and 4000 liters of Diesel leaked out from it.
The convoy which was supposed to reach Imphal at 1 pm could only reach even after 8 pm because of this reason, the the commandant added.
