Imphal, August 17, 2012:
The Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC), Manipur has on Friday urged the state Chief Minister to dispatch official statements of concern to the Governments of Karnataka and Maharashtra where the Northeast students and people are reportedly being attacked.
"The Chief Minister needs to take up appropriate steps over the issue as Manipuri students are being beaten up in these two states though the matter has been claimed as a rumour," Angamba, a member of the student committee, which is a conglomerate of six different student bodies, told a press conference at the office premises of Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) which is a part of the joint committee.
In the meantime, he made an appeal to all the Manipuri students who have fled the two states following violence against them that they should not incite communal violence by over-estimating the issue here.
All the parents are also requested to maintain calm and take care while speaking out over the matter, Angamba said and added that all the concerned are also appealed to abstain from all sorts of bandhs and strikes to protest the incidents.
