Training of trainers on climate change adaptation is underway

In an effort to create awareness and sensitisation on climate change besides providing better information on climate change and adaptation issues, a three day training of trainers programme on climate change adaptation is underway at the Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM) premises at Lamphelpat in Imphal.
Many professionals mostly college teachers working under different subjects from various parts of the state participated in the training of trainers programme.
These training programmes are also envisaged at creating a pool of master trainers for autonomous replication in each state beyond the support of IHCAP which has been providing support in designing and developing such and training programmes as per priorities.
Earlier orientation programmes for legislators and senior bureaucrats followed by state level and district level officers were organised and now the authorities are targeting trainers who were drawn from training cells of departments and experts from universities and institutes.
Prof P Kumar of department of life sciences of Manipur university and Prof L Nabachandra of Agronomy department of central agricultural university spoke on the adaptation to climate change in forestry and biodiversity and adaptation to climate change in agriculture and horticulture sector on the second day of the training programmes on Thursday.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prof NH Ravindranath of Indian Institute of Science Bangalore spoke on climate change impacts-vulnerability and adaptation to climate change while Deputy Director Dr T Brajakumar of Environment department on state action plan on climate change its key issues and concerns besides other response measures-policies, planning and initiatives.
