Arrested with IED

Imphal, November 15 2018:
Imphal East district police commandos arrested two active members of PREPAK (Pro) along with a powerful IED from Keirao Awahg Leikai, under Irilbung PS, yesterday evening.
According to a reliable source, on getting specific information about the presence of some active members of PREPAK (Pro) in and round Keirao Awang Leikai area, a team of Imphal East commando rushed to the area and cordoned off some suspicious houses and launched a search operation.
During the search operation, a suspected individual was detained by the commando team.
The individual was identified as Ningthoujam Yamba alias Sanayamba (36) s/o N Deben of Keirao Awang Leikai and during body search, two mobile phones along with four sim cards and an Indian Army identity card were recovered from his possession.
On preliminary interrogation the detained individual revealed that he is an Indian Army at ASC (AT) Paharpur Gaya, Bihar, and that he was arrested twice on various charges, once in 2017 and again recently about two months back in connection with crimes against women.
He revealed that he is presently staying at home in connection with the case of the crime against women.
Yamba disclosed that while he was in jail in 2017, he met one Mangdengbam Shamu (53) s/o (L) Kala of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai who is a cadre of the PREPAK (Pro).
After his recent arrest and then release from jail, he went to Shamu's house and requested him to make arrangement for him (Yamba) to join PREPAK (Pro).
As such they went to Tamu, Myanmar and met self styled 2nd Lieutenant Irei of the outfit.
Yamba also revealed that Shamu left for Imphal but he stayed back and learned the techniques of making IEDs from PREPAK (Pro) cadres under Irei.
He then came back with an IED on November 11 and the next day, he, along with Shamu, assembled the IED bomb at Shamu's residence and kept it there.
He disclosed that they used to communicate with Irei who instructed them to plant the IED at Pheidinga area to attack security personnel.
Yamba was arrested from his residence by the commando team and at his instance, the commando team proceeded towards Shamu's house and arrested him as well along with the seizure of two mobile phones.
During interrogation, Shamu revealed that he kept an assembled IED concealed at the front left corner of his common room and also disclosed that he is also working under self-styled 2nd Lieutenant Irei.
The sources further continued that after the location of the bomb was revealed, the security team evacuated the villagers to a safe area and cordoned off the area before informing the State bomb disposal squad.
Later, at around 11.30 pm, the IED was disassembled and its components including a remote control, a C-4 TNT (weighing around 186 grams), a detonator, a Delux 1L enamel paint container filled with some iron nail and iron screw, were seized.
The arrested people were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East today and remanded to police custody for six days, till November 20 .
