State women's right activist conferred prestigious global award

Imphal, November 15 2018:
Social worker and women's rights activist of the State Urmila Chanam was among ten women, from around the world, who was conferred with the prestigious global award for women of extraordinary courage, vision and action, "Women Have Wings Courage Awards" .
The award is given in memory and celebration ofthe spirit of courage of woman pilot Amelia Earhart and her last around-the-world flight on 1935 Lockheed Electra 10 E .
Urmila Chanam received the award for working amidst significant cultural barriers and physical challenges in India at remote and underdeveloped areas where accessibility is difficult and safety for a female activist is precarious.
