International Women's Day observed across State

Observance of International Women's Day was organised across the State today with different tastes and styles by various organisations and bodies.
Women's Studies Centre of S Kula Women's College, Nambol organised the Day at the college conference hall with the theme 'Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it up for gender equality' .
S Budhachandra, secretary, GB, SK Women's College, Dr L Muhindro, coordinator, Human Rights Studies Centre and Dr N Joykumar, principal of the college were the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively of the inaugural session.
A panel discussion on the theme, 'Gender equality, women empowerment and women's human rights' was organised to mark the occasion.
Dr L Muhindro chaired the session.
Dr S Bhogendra, Head, Sociology Dept, K Somorjit Singh, Assoc Prof, Philosophy Dept, M Surjit Singh, Head, Education Dept, L Bimola Devi, Assoc Prof, Education, S Chanu Shreela, Assoc Prof, Home Science Dept and Dr Ph Ashutosh Singh, Asst Prof, Chemistry Dept were the resource persons.
A total of 120 students and staff took part in the panel discussion, according to a statement.
Green Foundation organised the Day at Marriage Hall, Mayang Imphal.
About 100 SHGs members attended the programme.
U Himmat, CEO, Green Foundation, Okel Singh, consultant GF, Naorem Anita Devi, EO, Mayang Imphal MC, Shobita Devi, CO, Mayang Imphal MC and M Janeshwari Devi, councillor, ward No 3 were the presidium members, according to a statement.
FXB India Suraksha, Manipur Branch organised the International Women's Day at FXBIS' State office complex, Singjamei Chongtham Leikai.
Noutuneshori, CJM, Imphal East was the guest of honour.
Five children selected for a scholarship programme for children's education by FXBIS was announced.
A shot video titled, 'From Homemakers to Changemakers' was screened, informed a statement.
A workshop on domestic workers with the topic, 'Domestic Work is Decent Work' was organised by Domestic Workers Movement Organisation, Imphal on the occasion of International Women's Day today at Youth Hostel, Imphal.
Salam Rupachandra Singh, Assistant Solicitor General, High Court of Manipur and Advocate M Vidhyalaxmi Devi spoke as the resource persons.
The workshop was attended by domestic workers from different districts of the State, according to a statement.
Manipur State Legal Service Authority, Imphal West organised a one-day legal awareness to commermorate the International Women's Day today at Manipur Central Jail.
M Manojkumar, District and Sessions Judge, Imphal West, RK Memcha Devi, member secretary, MSLSA and Th Subhaschandra, SP of Manipur Central Jail were the presidium members.
Lamkhanpau Tonsing, CJM, Imphal West, Advocate Ch Momon and S Touthang, Dy SP, Manipur Central Jail also attended the programme.
A feast, arranged by Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, also marked the programme.
Mahila Morcha, Manipur State BJP and Women for Social Change, Singjamei Chingamakha jointly organised International Women's Day and a legal awareness programme at Singjamei Oinam Thingel community hall, Eikhoigi Club, ward No 17 .
The programme was held under the sponsorship of Mahila Morcha, Manipur BJP, State Legal Service Authority, Imphal West, and Women for Social Change.
President of BJP Manipur Th Chaoba attended the programme as the chief guest while Heisnam Joykumar Singh, president, Singjamei Mandal, BJP was the president.
Other dignitaries attending the function included S Seityabhama Devi, VP, Manipur State BJP and in-charge of Mahila Morcha, Dr Meinam Binota Devi and president, Women for Social Change.
The role of women in Manipur society, their position and the need to improve the status of women were stressed during the programme.

The programme was graced by SC Ringluiwon, president, Tangkhul Shanao Long, Ukhrul as the chief guest and N Rajnikanth Singh, District and Session Judge, Ukhrul and Chairman of Ukhrul District Legal Services Authority as the functional president.

Speaking at the programme, Th Sarat Kumar said that women irrespective of castes, religions and communities should be treated equally.
People should join hands to fight crime against women and bring gender equality.
Women's Voluntary Organisation (WVO) observed the International Women's Day with a function at its office at Keishamthong Moirangningthou Leirak based on the global theme, 'Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it Up for gender equality'.
Secretary of WVO Ch Sharmila Devi stressed on the need and importance of gender equality.
The women of Manipur are strong willed, outgoing and never shy away from responsibilities.
On the issues of crimes and atrocities inflicted upon women and children, Ch Sharmila appealed to the Women Commission of Manipur to take up appropriate and stringent measures to check rising trend.
Several schemes and benefits have been implemented by the Government for the rights and development of women and girl child but most of these are unknown to people.
She appealed to the authorities to organise seminars and campaigns to increase awareness concerning such schemes and benefits for the local people and womenfolk in general.
The event was attended by the Meira Paibi members and womenfolk of the locality.
