JDDC hints at stir resumption, Jiri set for date with CM

Imphal, December 06 2011: While some works/buildings have been abandoned without inaugurating them though these works were completed 10 years back, many new works are being executed in a hurried manner in Jiribam since it is expected that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi may come there on an inspection tour soon.

Meanwhile, the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) has warned that they would be constrained to resume their agitation if the Government fails to translates its promises into action.

Members of Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur, JDDC and media persons jointly recently assessed the development works being executed in Jiribam sub-division.

Construction work of the ADC complex was going on in full swing round the clock in view of the scheduled visit of the Chief Minister to Jiribam on December 8 though the same work was suspended for some period after completing the civil works.

The ITI building was also seen being white-washed.

One 132/33 KV power station built at Kadamtala, Jiribam has not been inaugurated till date though it was built around 10 years back.

When authorities made arrangements for its inauguration recently, many of its components were found bitten and damaged by rodents.

One official claimed that the damaged components have been replaced by new ones.

The Jiribam mini-stadium was getting completed barring the field.

JDDC convenor M Maipaksana said that compromising qualitative aspect of the construction works while speeding up the work pace with a view to inaugurate them before the elections was not desirable.

Observing that the State Government has not been implementing the MoU it signed with the JDDC on November 9, Maipaksana cautioned that the suspended agitation may be resumed soon.

He also appealed to AMUCO, UPF, IPSA, HERICOUN etc who took part in the dialogue between JDDC and the State Government to ensure that the assurances given by the Government are fulfilled without any further delay.

Pointing out that the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundary has completed its tenure of three months, the JDDC convenor urged the Government to declare Jiribam as a full fledged district in accordance to the MoU signed on November 9 .

The Government's assurances for upgrading Borobekra to the status of a sub-division and posting SDO and SDPO are yet to be put into action.

The other assurance to appoint adequate number of staff in Jiribam Aided College in accordance to UGC guidelines and Manipur University rules has not been fully turned into action.

It appears that the State Government has thrown out the MoU it signed with the JDDC, Maipaksana lamented.
