Imphal, September 03 2012:
In an unprecedented joint drive by women organisations, volunteers of Keithel Phambi Apunba Lup (KPAL) and Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup (MKNM) busted a sex racket in Paona Keithel in the heart of Imphal on Monday and rounded up 11 women, all maried, for indulging in the flesh trade in a hotel.
Elaborating on the drive, MKNM president Memma told the media that the drive was carried out to help save the Kwairamband market women vendors whose image have been tarnished by such women.
She said 11 married women who were found indulging in flesh trade in a hotel owned by one Md Tomba at Paona Bazaar were caught red handed by volunteers of KPL and MKNM.
During the drive, around three men, including the hotel proprietor managed to escape but the proprietor's wife, namely Leishiwon was rounded up, she added.
Memma accused such women impostors of coming to the market everyday by pretending themselves to be women vendors.
Such drive was carried at the same hotel before and the proprietor had also been warned not to allow such trade, she said.
All the women will be handed over to their respective families after warning them to refrain from such trade in future, Memma informed.
