Imphal, September 03 2012:
In the backdrop of the stiff opposition raised during public hearings held at Nungba and Jiribam in connection with obtaining environmental impact assessment clearance, the Government has decided to launch extensive awareness drives for the same venture throughout Churachandpur district.
Already, one round of public hearing was held at Parbung in Churachandpur district in connection with exploration and drilling of crude oil in 163 fields scattered across Tipaimukh, Thanlon and Henglep sub-divisions of the district.
Tipaimukh AC MLA and HAC Chairman Dr Chaltonlien Amo, DC Jacintha Lazarus and District Council Members held a meeting on oil exploration in the district.
It is reported that Jubilant Oil Company have identified 12 oil wells in Tipaimukh sub-division, three in Thanlon and one in Henglep.
Today's meeting was a follow-up step to the Parbung public hearing, informed a source.
The meeting decided to organise extensive awareness programmes so as to bring a broad understanding before going with drilling oil wells.
It was also agreed to lease the oil wells and adjoining places to Jubilant Oil Company for four years after which all the land should return to their
parent villages.
