JE claims second victim

Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has today claimed its second victim in Churachandpur district where there is overwhelming case of viral fever and at least three other JE cases have been confirmed by the authorities, official sources here said.
Thiamneihoi, 50 wife of Damtinkhup a resident of Lingsiphai village passed away today at JNIMS, Imphal around 12.30 pm, three days after she was referred to the hospital on suspicion by the doctors here.
It is said that the family rears pigs at about 30 feet from their residence and mosquitoes have been witnessed in huge numbers in and around the pig sties.
The deceased woman developed headache on Thursday last, with more symptoms of JE appearing in the next two days.
She was taken to the district hospital after she at times lost consciousness on Sunday to be immediately referred to Imphal.
At JNIMS her case was confirmed to be that of JE, said Dr VC Pau, the District Immunisation Officer.
He said that there are three other positive cases in the district.
