Imphal, August 30 2020:
Kiyamgei Muslim Village Development Committee has appealed the State Government to facilitate MGNREGA job card holders under Kiyamgei Muslim Arapti Gram Panchayat withdraw their wages.
COVID-19 has affected many vulnerable sections of the society including the job-card holders, a statement of the development committee said while adding that the DC and BDO have instructed earlier to link their Aadhaar card to their respective bank accounts after which they can withdraw their wages.
These job cardholders had their accounts opened at Punjab National Bank, Irilbung Branch but due to restriction of transport owing to lockdown and other SOP, most of the job card holders could not visit the bank, link their accounts and withdraw their respective wages, it said.
Even if they managed to visit the bank, most of them have to stand in unnaturally long queues due to safety concerns, it added.
The Pradhan of the said GP had even approached the Branch Manager of the Punjab National Bank, Irilbung Branch seeking an arrangement of some bank staff to visit the Panchayat Ghar and help job cardholders withdraw their wages but the bank has declined the request, it said.
The committee, in view of the hardships faced by the job-card holders, urged authorities concerned to look into the matter and ensure the speedy withdrawal of the wages.
The committee also asked authorities concerned to make arrangements to shift the accounts of these job-card holders if the Punjab National Bank, Irilbung Branch is not willing to extend any sort of help to get linkage of Aadhaar card done and withdrawal of their wages.
