National Sports Day observed

As a Part of Fit India Movement, the Fit India Campaign Committee, Fit India Club, Department of PESS and NSS Cell, Manipur University, Canchipur jointly organised an "Observance of National Sports Day" on August 29 at Traffic Point, MU, Canchipur.
The observance held under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt.of India was attended by Jarnail Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University; Prof R A S Kushwaha, Dean, School of Human and Environmental Sciences; Prof Ch Yashawanta Singh, Dean, School of Humanities and Prof Th.Ratankumar Singh, Dean, Students Welfare, Manipur University cum Chairman, Fit India Club as presidium members.
A team of cyclists from Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAMBA) under the leadership of Dr Nepram Sanjib Singh, Deputy Superintendent, RIMS also attended the observance and took part in the cycle rally as a part of Fit India Freedom Run, said Dr L Santosh Singh, convenor Fit India Campaign Committee & Fit India Club Manipur University in a statement.
At the beginning of the observance programme, a floral tribute was paid to the hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand as National Sports Day is being observed on his birthday, it said adding that a 12-day campaign for Fit India Freedom Run was also flagged off from the Traffic Point, MU, Canchipur.
Jarnail Singh expressed the importance of keeping fit both the body and mind in our lives.
He also emphasised that to save the loss of time in visiting hospitals and health expenditures incurred, one should invest in the fitness of body and mind.
