Bishnupur, August 30 2020:
Beneficiaries of PMGKAY of Keibul Mayai Leikai Ward No 9 under Moirangkhunou Gram Panchayat today protested over short supply of PMGKAY rice.
A sit-in was staged at Ima Phouoibi Lairembi Sana Sanglen of Keibul Mayai Leikai by the beneficiaries who had a round of spate with distributing agents over insufficient distribution of PMGKAY rice for the month of September (distributed in advance).
With the agent denying prescribed quantities of rice, the beneficiaries had only to turn down their shares of relief rice which is being distributed to help people alleviate shortage of food grains during COVID-19 crisis.
Seeking intervention from concerned authorities, one of the beneficiaries stated that it was not the first time there is anomaly in distribution of the relief rice in the said area.
In view of the growing misery due to the prolonged lockdown and insufficient distribution of rice, the District Administration was apprised of the injustices earlier but sadly no positive response from the latter's can be seen yet, she continued.
Under the relief scheme (PMGKAY), each beneficiary has to get 5 kg of rice and the Government has also assured to ensure the same, however they have been receiving only 3 kg each, she said while drawing attention of the Chief Minister to do the needful and helped the poors during such trying times.
Another protestor also expressed regret stating why such anomaly has to occur in the said Ward only.
There was no issue regarding the distribution of NFSA rice, but the current issue is unfortunate and unacceptable, she said and appealed to all concerned to look into the matter and ensure prescribed and rightful amount of rice to all beneficiaries.
