Kuki people from all walks of life today observed "Kuki Black Day" in solemn remembrance of hundreds of people who died during the Kuki-Naga conflict.
It may be mentioned that more than one hundred Kuki civilians were killed by Naga militants on this day in 1993 at Joupi and Gelnel villages in Chandel district at the height of the Kuki- Naga conflict.
The main function at Lamka was held at Tuibuong Peace Ground here from 10 am under the aegis of Kuki Students' Organization (KSO).
Braving inclement weather and drizzles which continued throughout the day, many people turned out and take part in the function.
Singspiration, candle lighting, mass prayer for peace and speeches from various society leaders marked today�s function.

Haokip, secretary of the Kuki Inpi Churachandpur (KIC) traced the significance and origin of the observation of the day.
Black flags were hung at houses and most business establishments run by Kuki people also close in solidarity today.
Kuki residents of Moreh area also observed the "Black day" at Moreh today by holding prayer meetings and hoisting black flags.
