Tension gripped Paona Bazar for quite sometime after a Major of a Central security force suffered head injuries in a scuffle with some shopkeepers on the first floor of the Paona International Market today at about 3 pm.
According to reports culled from the site of the incident, the scuffle broke out when the officer grabbed the neck of a shopkeeper after a heated argument over the price of some goods.
As the scuffle broke out, other shop keepers also rushed in and in the ensuing melee, the Major suffered the head injury.
IRB and police personnel on duty at Paona bazar and the nearby areas rushed in and brought the situation under control.
One IRB personnel also suffered injuries on the face when he slipped and fell on the staircase while rushing in to control the situation.
The Central security men later tried to take away the shopkeeper but the police and other shopkeepers stopped them, said people who witnessed the incident.
Later the Major made a phone call from a nearby PCO and he was taken back by another team led by a Major.
The shopkeeper was later picked up by the police and taken to City Police.
Additional SP of Imphal West and the SDPO also rushed to the spot to defuse the tension.
