Imphal, January 10:
Seven councillors of the Mayang Imphal Municipal Council have jointly put up a no confidence motion against the Chairperson N Nilamani and urged the MPP for forfeiting the right and seat of Nilamani as a councillor.
Disclosing this while talking to mediapersons at the MPP office today, party president and MLA O Joy Singh and party leader MLA Dr Nimaichand Luwang cited violation of rules, misuse of fund and granting of lands without the approval of the Board as the main reason for putting up the no confidence motion against the chairman.
Elucidating the charges, the two MLAs said that Nilamani was a person who has been implicated in controversies over misuse of more than Rs 2 lakhs of NSDP fund, appointment of 10 employees of the Council on the sly and forging of signatures of the councillors to withdraw case from the Court.
Charging the Congress led SPF Government with trying to shield Nilamani inspite of knowing everything, O Joy demanded that the chairperson should be disqualified as per the Act and Rules of the Municipal Council.
He should be put under arrest after framing appropriate cases, he added.
The Councillors who where also present during the conference asserted that they have put up the no confidence motion against the chairperson as the Government has done nothing to rectify mistake committed by the chairperson despite repeated appeals.
They also said that seven out of the 13 councillors have affirmed on the demand for removal of Nilamani from the councillorship.
