Imphal, January 10:
The Gaan Ngai celebration Committee Manipur is celebrating Gaan Ngai on January 16 at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT).
Governor Ved Marwah and Chief Minister O Ibobi will grace the function as chief guest and president respectively.
The celebration will commence with offering of holy wine to Tingkao Ragwang, the Almighty God which will be reinforced with a hymn by the followers of Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak � the traditional faith of the Zeliangrong people, according to a press hand out from the Committee.
It shall be followed by many important rites � the extraction of sacred fire.
This symbolizes ritual sanctification and is taken as signs heralding a new beginning � a new year.
The Hoi Kaomei also will be performed to invoke the blessing of the Supreme God.
Amidst the function the Chief Guest will release a book on Gaan Ngai.
As an expression of the spirit of Gaan Ngai, varieties of colorful cultural items, songs, dances and musical recitals will be presented.
