The All Manipur Meitei Mayek Research and Training Board, Imphal will teach twenty seven Meitei Mayek script to the unaided schools of Manipur from Class I to II in the coming academic session 2003.For this it is preparing to launch a mass campaign for which 846 Meitei Mayek teachers will be utilized.
This was stated by Kh Basantakumar, president of the Board during a press conference today.
He further said that the minimum qualification of Meitei Mayek teachers is matriculate or 2/3 years course on Meitei Mayek recognized by the Board.
Out of the 846 teachers, 526 will be utilized in valley districts while remaining 320 will be for hill districts.
The students of class I and II will be imparted the Meitei Mayek script for both mission and private schools.
The campaign will not cover the government and aided schools of Manipur as the Meitei Mayek teachers are already selected.
The authority of the selection of teachers will be the Board.
For this the Board is preparing to pay some monthly allowance to the teachers.
The service period of the teachers is unlimited.
But the selected candidates should deposit a sum of Rs 5000 to the Board.
Of the said amount Rs 1000 will be treated as donation and the remaining will be refunded at the time of retirement, he said.
He also maintained that the selected teachers will be allotted to their nearby schools or accordingly.
The twenty seven scripts of Meitei Mayek is recognized by the Government of Manipur.
No controversial is arises.
It should be generalized throughout the State.
In Manipur there is no spelling committee of Meitei Mayek.
So, a spelling committee has to be instituted.
The Board also appeals the Government to constitute a spelling committee and to standardize the twenty seven Meitei Mayek.
