Imphal, August 09 2009:
All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) in association with All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM), Kuki Students Organisation (KSO-GHQ), CDSU Churachandpur, NSUC Chandel, TKS Ukhrul, SDSA Senapati and ZSUM Tamenglong will stage rallies in all five hill districts of the State on August 11 to demand revocation of the State Cabinet's decision to deploy police commandos and IRB personnel in the hill districts.
Saying that although the State Government has the right to deploy its security men anywhere in the State, ATSUM asked whether there is any improvement in law and order situation in valley areas where these forces are currently deployed.
The past incidents and the recent Khwairamband Bazar incident testify the excesses of these forces, ATSUM added.
The student body also called on the tribal people to take part in the said rally.
Meanwhile, Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) urged the general public to demand revamping of the Manipur Police Department and stand united against State Government's move to deploy police commandos and IRB personnel in hill districts.
Commenting on Khawiramband market incident, a press release issued by its general secretary Xavier Pamei said that suspension of a few police commandos and instituting of Judicial Inquiry will not bring any solution.
The policy of offering 'license to kill' to security forces must be stopped by the State Government, the student body further asserted.
