Over 40,000 health workers working in Government and private hospitals who have been fighting the COVID-19 pandemic as frontline warriors would be given COVID-19 vaccine on priority basis.
As instructed by the Central Government, a list of health workers who would get first COVID vaccine shots has been prepared for each district, informed a high ranking official of the Health Department.
Anganwadi workers and police personnel would also be included in the list of people who would be vaccinated against COVID-19 in the first phase.
As such, lists of police personnel and Anganwadi workers who have been working in the frontline are being prepared.
However, the Central Government has not yet announced any date or time frame for launching the first round of vaccination against COVID-19 .
As it is being speculated that the COVID-19 positive cases would record a sharp rise in the State during the current month, the State Government has been working to increase COVID beds at both RIMS and JNIMS, said the official.
Till yesterday, the official figure of COVID-19 deaths in the State stood at 306 while the total number of positive cases was 26,073 .
So far, no COVID-19 related death has been reported from Jiribam, Senapati and Pherzawl districts.
With a total 108 victims, COVID-19 has claimed maximum number of lives in Imphal West district.
With 69 deaths, Imphal East occupies the second position.
Thoubal and Churachandpur are at the third and fourth places with 48 and 28 deaths respectively.
Bishnupur has recorded 18 deaths, Kangpokpi 12, Chandel 7, Tamenglong 5, Kakching 4, Tengnoupal 3, Ukhrul 2, Kamjong one and Noney one.
