Imphal, August 06 2010:
After 68-day of economic blockade, 800 metric tonne of rice was brought yesterday by train at Jiribam railway station.
From there it will be transported by trucks to Imphal using NH-53 after stockpiling at FCI Jiribam godown.
But the trucks cannot move towards the railway station due to the terrible conditions of the road.
The road is not even motorable during rain.
Our Jiribam correspondent saw a truck laden with rice struck on the road.
The FCI Area Manger had informed the Railway officials about the conditions of the road leading to the railway station.
Up to yesterday, trucks had brought 1400 metric tonne of rice to the FCI godown at Jiribam.
About 30 truckload of rice are on the way to the godown in addition to the 800 metric tonne of rice presently stationed at the train in Jiribam railway station.
There is plan to bring another 800 metric tonne of rice by train.
The godown will not be able to stock up all the rice as it has a stock capacity of only 2500 metric tonne.
The officials are facing problem where to keep the additional stock of rice.
Though there was a plan to construct another 2500 metric tonne capacity godown at Jiribam it never materialize.
There is an immediate need to construct a buffer godown of FCI at Jiribam.
