Anti-ceasefire expansion agitation has gained momentum in Assam too with the Dimasa Students� Union, All Assam Manipuri Students� Union and other student organizations staging a massive rally at Haflong today, said a fax message from the two student bodies.
The AAMSU in a statement said the rally was participated by about 5000 students and the rally covered all the important roads and by lanes at Haflong in North Cachar Hill District which is dominated by the Dimasas.
A public meeting was held after the rally at the ground of the Dimasa Students� Union wherein student leaders, intellectuals and political leaders voiced their strong opposition to the expansion of the ceasefire without territorial limit.
among the notable speakers at the meeting were the president of the Dimasa Students� Union, Rajatmani Thausen, JK Thausen, Rabindra Thausen, L Maniton (Adviser to AAMSU, North Cachar Hill district), Y Bijoychand (President AAMSU, NCHD), L Ingongambi (Secretary AAMSU NCHD) and Binoy Thoidingjam (ex-general secretary AAMSU).
Meanwhile mass rally against the extension of Centre-NSCN (IM) ceasefire has been continuing in several parts of Manipur.
The Kangchup Area Hill and Valley United Clubs Organization a rally at Kangchup area today.
Thousands of people drawn from 40 different voluntary organizations participated in the rally.
The rally started from Singda Bazar and proceeded upto Phayeng.
The rally returned to Singda Bazar where a public meeting was held.
The meeting pledged that all communities residing at Kangchup will help each other and extend mutual co-operation.
Members of the Koireng tribe, Chirus, Joute, Vaiphei, Thadou, and other Naga tribes participated in the massive rally today.
Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai Development Committee also organized a rally against the ceasefire extension today.
