Imphal, July 05:
A congregation of 18 villages of Nongmaiching area (Baruni hill areas) of which majority are Naga villages have expressed stiff opposition to the extension of the ceasefire boundary and resolved to preserve the boundary of the State.
The decision was taken during a meeting held at Yaipharok Maring village in Imphal East district today.
The meet was graced by K Angrung, village chief of Yaipharok Maring village and MS Thomas, village chief of Ngarangphung Tangkhul village as chief guest and president respectively.
Representatives, village chiefs, Pastors and members of Tangkhul, Chiru, Kabui, Maring, Meitei and Muslim of the 18 villages attended the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, K Angrung said that his village had been having inseparable ties with the surrounding valley villages since time immemorial.
The issue of the Centre-NSCN (IM) has nothing to do with this natal ties, he said.
Even if our valley brethren ask to leave our villages, we will never comply them as we have vowed to die on Manipur soil, he declared at the meeting.
Expressing strong disagreement with NSCN (IM) leader Th Muivah, he said that Muivah should confine his politics in Nagaland only and it should not be extended to any territory of Manipur.
MS Thomas called for unity and communal harmony among the people.
Inter-community clash in the prevailing circumstances will not benefit anybody and will only help in disintegration of state boundary.
NC Khuman, publicity secretary of AMUCO asserted that every community has been residing harmoniously as the Meitei, which is the major group has not been a threat to any community.
The June 18 uprising is a clear example that Meiteis are not communal, he said.
Stating that the Manipuri people have now realized that their true enemy is India, he said the tribal brethren should not worry about any communal flare-up over the issue.
