Imphal, July 05:
The Governor, Ved Marwah, while acknowledging the anguish of the people of Manipur over the happenings of the past few weeks, has today assured the people that he would do everything possible to convey their feelings on cease-fire extension, to the Central government.
In an appeal to the people of Manipur, Ved Marwah said the visit of a Central "high-powered" team headed by ID Swami, union minister of state for home affairs, which has arrived in Imphal today to listen to the people's grievances in the wake of the Bangkok agreement, is an opportunity to put across the views.
ID Swami has agreed to meet as many persons as he can in the three days visit, he said.
"In democracy, everyone has a right to express his or her views, but without creating a law and order problem or communal tensions.
Any further violence will only complicate the already difficult situation", the Governor said in his appeal adding the people of Manipur have so far shown exemplary behavior in maintaining communal harmony.
"I hope this will continue".
At the same time, he said the state administration is keen to avoid any confrontation with peaceful expression of views, but in the light of the tragic incident of June 18, it has to be doubly careful.
While stating that the administration does not want to muzzle peaceful forms of protest, the Governor appealed to the people, particularly the mothers' community, meira paibi organizations and the student community to refrain from any act of violence.
