Four drivers abducted; Union appeals

Four truck drivers from the State have been reportedly abducted from near SB Petrol Pump, Ambrajan in Karbi Anglong district of Assam in the night of May 27 .
Meanwhile, strongly condemning the abduction of the drivers, the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union has urged the authorities concerned to ensure their safe and immediate release.
Soibam Khomei Singh (43) and Soibam Sanatomba Singh (26) sons of Iboyai Singh of Tekcham Maning Ching; Langpoklakpam Sarat Singh (38) S/o L Prem Singh of Keirak Dam and Elangbam Romen Singh (30) of Irengban Kakching were abducted by unidentified miscreants from Ambrajan, Assam in the intervening night of May 27 and 28 .
Speaking to reporters today at the AMRTDMWU office located at MG Avenue, general secretary of the Union Hamom Kullamani said that the drivers along with the handymen on their way to Imphal from Guwahati were spending the night in their vehicles when the miscreants abducted the drivers.
He said that all the vehicles�AS 01 DC-6737, AS01 DC 2556, AS01 DC-6738 and AS01 DD-3060, belonging to the Metro Trading Agency were loaded with biscuits and fruit juice.
At the same time, the Union has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Dy CM, Chief Secretary, DGP and SP (Imphal West) demanding the immediate and safe release of the abducted drivers whose whereabouts is still not known.
Highlighting the woes of the abducted drivers' families, the Union urged the authorities concerned to do the needful at the earliest.
It also warned of launching cease work strike unless the conditions of the drivers and motor workers are improved.
