The unique pitcher plant which is a carnivore found in India only in the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya is found in Tamenglong district of Manipur too.
Some officials of Forest Department came across a plant similar to the pitcher plant growing in Meghalaya at Buning area of Tamenglong district in 2006.After taking photographs of the plant, the officials have been studying whether there is any difference between the plants growing in Khasi Hills of Meghalaya and Tamenglong district of Manipur, informed an official source.

Reports and photographs collected by the department indicate that the two plants are of the same species.
Nonetheless, further field study would be conducted in the month of July.
Manipur University Life Science Assistant Professor P Kumar said that he found the insect eating plant growing at Buning.
It is a fact that pitcher plant which was earlier reported to be found only in Meghalaya is growing in Manipur too.
To make an official claim in this regard, further research work is going on, Kumar said.
Just as Meghalaya is using pitcher plant as an element for attracting tourist, the Government of Manipur may also take advantage of the newly discovered pitcher plant to promote tourism industry.
