Jiribam, June 02 2014:
Since the collapse of the lone hanging bridge connecting Babukhal village in Tamenglong district sometime back, the villagers of the area have been facing lots of hardships.
Babukhal village is situated 5 kms north of Muktokkhong which is around 10 kms to the east of Jiribam sub-division along the NH 37 .
In connection with the bridge collapse due to flood, a meeting of the villagers was held on May 11 last with vice-president of Nongpok Chingkhei Development Committee M.Haritombi Singh in the chair.

The meeting adopted a number of resolutions.
Among others, the meeting decided to request the concerned authority for constructing a new hanging bridge at Babukhal to reduce the inconvenience caused to the people of the area, and also to apprise the Civil Society Organisations regarding the problems face by the people.
Consequent to the meeting, the villagers met ADC Jiribam Dr.Harmit Singh Pahuja the following day.
During the meeting the ADC gave assurance for an initial arrangement to resolve the inconveniences of the villagers.
However, no action has been taken till date.
As stated by M.Haritombi Singh, V.P.Nongpok Chingkhei Development Committee, Babukhal village has been in existence since 1964.Even after 50 years, the Government of Manipur has not taken up any effective steps for construction of roads and the lone bridge that connects the village has been swept away by flood.
Finding no means, villagers are using boats to cross the river, he added.
He also lamented that the effort of the villagers to meet the Forest Department officials ended in vain as there was no official in the forest office.
