Thoubal district police claimed to have busted two militant hideouts during operations conducted at Khoidumpat of Thoubal district and at Minou Anal village located a few kilometres away.
During the raids carried out in between 2 am and 2 pro today based on specific information, a combined security team of Thoubal district police and personnel of 33 Assam Rifles destroyed a temporary camp of the UNLF at Khoidumpat and another hideout said to belong to the PULF at Minou Anal village.
According to Thoubal district SPL Kailun items recovered from the busted UNLF camp have been listed as two gas cylinders, a gas stove, one solar panel, a 12 volt battery, an inverter besides some incriminating documents like letter heads.
Items recovered in the Minou Anal village operation included a television set, voltage stabiliser, an audio video RF converter, one battery, a VCD player, inverter, stereo player, PULF's stamp with pads, and documents including some demand letters signed by the outfit's finance secretary.
Meanwhile, a combined team of the Bishnupur District police commandos, 11 Grehwal Rifles and II IRB, personnel arrested four suspected UG members during a combing operation conducted at different places under Moirang police station this morning.
A kenwood set and one .38 revolver along with some rounds were recovered during the operation.
Sources further stated that the combined team arrested a youth identified as Tongbram Bishwarjit alias Ibungo (25) from his Moirang Laishoi Leikai residence at this morning at around 2.During interrogation the youth revealed that he joined an underground outfit through one Hamon Laijing in April 2004.Based on information specific information, the combined team of 11 GR, Bishnupur Police Commandos and 2 IRB personnel located at Moirang raided Keibul Chingmei Maning Leikai this morning at around 11.30 and arrested three suspected UGs.
The arrested UGs have been identified as LaishramLadu alias Abhisek (22) of Nachou Kha Leikai, Moirangthem Birachandra alias Nanao alias UP alias Jackey (21) of Moirang Kojengbam Mayai Leikai and Oinam Joy alias Wakchinglakpa alias Romen (24) of Keibul Chingmei Mayai Leikai.
A .38 revolver along with four rounds were also recovered from O Joy while the set from Birchandra.
A PIB (DW) press handout, however, claimed that Joy is a hard core member of 143 Bn of UNLF and his army no is 1380 and Nanao and Ladu as PREPAK activists.
Nanao is a lance corporal of PREPAK and his army no 13446, according to the press handout of the PIB (DW).
The handout further informed that a patrol party of 12 Grenadiers was fired upon by unknown militants at Keibul Lamjao.
The army patrol retaliated and the reportedly caused casualties to the fleeing militants.
