Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Gaikhangam said that there should be healthy competition among all the Government departments and utilise every talent for all round development of the State.
He was speaking during a reception function host-ed in his honour by the staff of his department at its Sanjenthong office this afternoon.
Gaikhangam emphasised on the need for adopting scientific methods in Agriculture for increasing productivity in view of the fact that the available cultivable land is limited al- though human population has been ever increasing day by day.
He noted that destructive methods of jhuming cultivation being practised in hill area should be stopped.
This could be achieved only when the farmers have thorough knowledge of the importance of horticulture, the Minister said.
He expressed serious concern over the giving exaggerated figures by some of the Government Departments while submitting their annual progress report and said that this should be stopped as it would deprived the people of their share of development.
Every Government department is just like members of a same family and they should co-ordinate and help each others for development of the State, Gaikhangam stated.
Commissioner of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Henry K Heni who also spoke at the occasion drew the attention of the Minister to various problems of the Department.
The Minister later went round the different sections of the department to inspect the working condition and existing infrastructures.
License cancelled: State Government has cancelled the licenses of 68 oil mills operating in the State.
Chief Inspector of Factories and Broilers, who is also the Director of Commerce and Industries issued an order in this connection on July 1, 2004.
