Students in different parts of the State continued their text books surrender agitation in protest against the prolonged imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 in Manipur adding to the growing demand for removal of the Act.
A large number of students from Langmeidong Junior High School, Langmeidong Girls� High School and Langmeidong Higher Secondary School in Thoubal district today surrendered their books to Waikhong SDC at around 2.15 pm today.
The agitating students came out of their respective class rooms carrying their text books and marched upto the SDC office, Waikhong where they surrendered the books to SDC FR Choudhury one by one.
On their way they also shouted slogans demanding withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the entire State and punishment of AR personnel involved in the brutal killing of Th Manorama and Saichang village pastor Jamkholet Khongsai.
At Kakching Khunou Bazar in Thoubal District, the agitating students of Kakching Khunou Government High School, Kakching Khunou Cheksha Part High School and Kakching Khunou Makha High School gave vent to their ire and burnt their books.
Later they took out a rally in and around the market areas shouting slogans denouncing the excessesof the security personnel, removal of black laws and punishment of guilty AR personnel.
When the agitating student rallyists gathered at Kakching Khunou Bazar, they set aflame the effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil.
