Imphal, September 01:
Strongly condemning the excesses of the State police personnel, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup today said the killing of an ailing youth by Imphal West police commandos yesterday at Khonsai Veng proves that the excesses committed by the Central security force have started to rub off on the State forces too.
Strongly condemning the killing of the youth, the Lup in a statement said that such killings will continue until and unless the Armed Forces Special Powers Act is totally rooted out from the State.
The security personnel have increasingly come under the impression that they can train their guns on anyone and kill them, said the Lup adding that the law clearly states that all suspects should be tried by the Court.
Continuing with its offensive against the police personnel, the statement said that during the bandh called at various places to demand the revocation of AFSPA, the police personnel fired tear gas shells, rubber bullets and mockery bombs at people staying at the road side of NH-39 wounding three people.
Such excesses on the people who were staging their agitation democratically and peacefully is highly condemnable, said the Lup.
Targeting the politicians, the Lup said that what the 59 MLAs and three MPs have been saying and what they have been doing are poles apart and it is more than clear that their utterings are only lip service.
Taking serious note of the reception hosted for Ministers and MLAs, the statement said that this is not the time to felicitate politicians and also asked all to desist from such activities in the future.
The State Government is only interested in winning the favour of the Centre, while ignoring the sentiments and aspirations of the people here, said the Lup.
The preparations made to welcome the Union Home Minister, while ignoring the wishes of the people of Manipur is ample proof that to the political class, their only aim is to please their bosses at New Delhi.
