World IP(Intellectual Property) Day observed

As in other part of the globe, World Intellectual Property Day, 2011 was observed under the theme of 'Designing the future' at MSME-Development Institute, Takyel Industrial Estate here today.
World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on April 26. The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to "raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and "to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe" .
It was on April 26 that the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization entered into force in 1970.Organised under the joint aegis of Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) and All Manipur Industrialists' Foundation, Imphal, Executive Director of MASTEC Th Surendranath; Deputy Director in-charge of MSME-DI, Imphal Th Baite , Chairman of All Manipur Industrial Foundation N Shanta and Professor of Manipur University N Rajmohan were among the dignitaries who attended the observance.
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Director in-charge of MSME-DI Imphal Th Baite explained that Intellectual Property Rights is essential today to ensure development of industries and capture the market.
So, the industrialists in Manipur should see that their institutions have adequate infrastructures and are ready to face the challenges.
Executive Director of MSATEC Th Surendranath pointed out that private sector in Manipur today are doing well in their respective fields.
Along with this development, there is the need to protect individual talent, not only that of the industrialists but also of the students, as their own properties.
Prof N Rajmohan said that observance of World Intellectual Property Day is becoming relevant in Manipur as well.
In spite of its small size, Manipur can today boost of many innovative industrialists.
He also stressed on the need for frequent communication among these industrialists on marketing their products.
