Hornbill Cable Network attains 25 years

Hornbill Cable Network, a leading cable-distributed television channel distributor in this restive township today attains a record twenty-five years after making a daring debut in 1986, when the entire township has just three televisions on its own.
'As televisions were still very rare even in the north-east, there was no sight of such networks even in Guwahati when I launch cable based network,' Mangpu Tonsing, its founder and proprietor said.
He did suffer initial blues as many relatives disapproved his move as he had sold a commercially profitable land for accumulating the required capital.
'They lashed at me for exchanging land with an iron box,' he said adding, 'because they lack the vision I have' .
Commemorating the HCN's historic anniversary at its premises, Tonsing declared a hike in the pay of all his employees effective from January 2011, with arrear benefits and exonerate all fee defaulters till December 2010 .
Planning a year-long celebration, the network has instituted a celebration committee comprising of eminent personalities to make their feat a memorable one.
HCN has charged a meager monthly fee of Rs.100 from its subscriber in exchange for supplying them over 50 channels through its network.
It has atleast five channels with local contents.
Besides, the network runs an orphanage home name 'Tabitha Home' from its returns.
