Swu explains changing approaches of NSCN-IM

Dimapur, March 21 2013: "We have now entered 16th years of negotiation with the Government of India, but we see no concrete result so far.

I am sure solution is a must, it is a matter of time" .

This was stated by NSCN-IM chairman Isak Chisi Swu while delivering a speech on the outfit's 34th Republic Day at Camp Hebron, off Dimapur today.

Isak Chsi Swu in his speech said the approach of the NSCN-IM has to keep changing to the problems of the Nagas to keep in tune with the fast changing world.

"The world is changing fast, so our approach to our problems should also be viewed from the perspective of this changing world," the NSCN-IM chairman said while adding, "The approach to the Indo-Naga problem by both GOI and NSCN has changed- from military to political, though the issue will remain unsolved".

"34 years ago, on this very day, the 21st March 1980, we solemnly proclaimed that the Nagalim should be a sovereign Christian Socialist Democratic Republic," Isak Chisi Swu recalled.

"With this wow we have stood firm thus far in the face of all kinds of enemies.

No force, great nor small, has ever shaken our faith at any point of time," the NSCN-IM leader added.

He then expressed his salutation to those who have laid down their 'precious lives for the righteous cause' .

"Their supreme sacrifices have made our spirit of nationalism stronger and given us the will to carry on our task till the last.

It is our duty to keep it alive and pass on to the future generations," Swu added.

Swu went on to state that NSCN-IM is not a party of a section of people as alleged by some people.

"It is the national council of Naga people that represents the future of Nagas.

It is principle-based and vision-oriented organization.

But the fact is that there are members who are still not equipped with the spirit of NSCN.

NSCN are 'Nazarites' of the nagas.

We have suffered long enough for the cause and invested everything in the movement.

We are still ready to go till the last.

I can proudly say that NSCN are not alone.

Except a few workers who have fallen from the grace, the whole Nagas are with us to stand together, move together and build together a state of our own," Isak Swu claimed in his speech.

He then said unity through reconciliation is a natural necessity, and so it is a must.

"We must reconcile with God; we must reconcile with our people; we must reconcile with our neighbors and we must reconcile with our adversaries.

However, reconciliation should be based on correct political and faith lines.

Reconciliation or unity at the expense of the principle is suicidal," Swu opined.

"On this historic day, I would like to extend my profound gratitude to all our sympathizers and supporters from all quarters for their selfless contributions.

My special thanks go to the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), Naga International Support Centre (NISC), Parliamentarians for National Self-determination (PNSD), QUACKERS, KREDDHA, Joint Lagislators' Forum (JLF), Naga Hoho, Eastern Naga Peoples Organization, ENSF, EMNA, GB Federation, Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), Naga Tribal Hohos, United Naga Council (UNC) Naga Mothers Associations, Naga Students' Federation, NPMHR, Naga Council Dimapur, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, Naga Women Union Manipur, Churches and many others," the NSCN-IM chairman mentioned.

"Collaborative effort is the need of the hour.

I hope and trust that you will continue to support the cause of suppressed Nagas in the in the days to come too.

NSCN will continue to strive with unwavering faith, with one voice and one mind," he concluded his speech by saying this.
