Imphal, August 03 2016:
Following differences in opinion regarding the reservation policy of Manipur University among student communities regarding teaching and non-teaching posts as well as in admission processes, the admission process in the post graduate level at Manipur University has been put on hold and an Academic Council meeting was held today at the university premises.
The meeting deliberated on the revised notice sent by the University Grant Commission (UGC) to authorities of MU on March 23 this year regarding the point wise reservation roster.

The notification stated that as per instructions of the Govt of India/UGC, all the educational institutions receiving grant-in-aid from the Central Govt have to follow the percentage of reservation which is 15 percent for SCs, 7.5 percent for STs and 27 percent for OBCs, in the matter of teaching and non-teaching posts as well as in admission to various courses.
It may be mentioned that the Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has been demanding revocation of the two resolutions adopted by the Manipur University Deans' Committee on April 4 concerning the reservation matter and to follow the previous State norms on the reservation policy.
Other student organisations have been urging the Manipur University authority to respect the Central norms as the MU is under UGC.
Student representatives participated in the academic council meeting that was held today, a source informed.
The student representatives reportedly requested the MU authorities to abide by the norms given to the university by the UGC.
Further, the source informed that until a formal notice is served by the MU authorities after studying today's meeting, all admission processes in the Post Graduate courses for the university will be suspended.
