JNIMS refutes news report

JNIMS authority has refuted the news report that some super specialist doctors of the medical institute have been sitting idle due to lack of equipment while they have been referring patients to private hospitals/clinics .
A press release issued by JNIMS media advisor claimed that Urology, Nephrology, Pulmonary Medicine, Gastro, Haematology and Endocrinology Departments have been diagnosing/treating patients every day regularly .
In the meantime, tender process for procuring necessary equipment for Endocrinology Department has been completed and all the necessary equipment would be procured soon .
There is no specific rule or policy of the Government which says that medicines should be provided free of cost to patients at casualty ward from 8 am to 8 pm.
At one point of time, medicines were provided free of cost at casualty ward between 8 am and 8 pm at the initiative of the then Director .
It further rejected the report that Rs one crore is sanctioned very year to provide medicines to indoor patients.
There is no order or policy to this effect.
The amounts sanctioned to JNIMS were what were demanded by JNIMS authority according to requirements, it clarified .
The pharmacy opened at the hospital under PMBJP is opened only during OPD hours.
At present, there are only six pharmacists at JNIMS and they were recruited when JNIMS had a capacity of just 250 beds.
Now the hospital has 650 beds.
Nonetheless, the authority has been working to recruit more pharmacists in tune to the increased capacity of the hospital .
At present, there are 55 doses of anti-snake venom.
A firm was also selected to supply anti-rabies vaccine but the firm turned back from the contract after prices of drugs rose following implementation of GST .
Nonetheless, JNIMS authority would explore other means to procure anti-rabies vaccine at the earliest, it conveyed .
It further rejected the report that some important tests like LFT, KFT etc are not done at JNIMS even though PMBJP guarantees 57 different diagnosis tests free of cost .
Since the scheme was announced by the Chief Minister, JNIMS has conducted 25,817 different tests including 23,168 numbers of LFT and KFT free of cost .
Moreover 3510 numbers of Dengue, HIV, UPT and CPR tests were done free of cost in the month of July alone .
Appointment of Dr Thongam Bhimo as Director-in-charge of JNIMS was made by the State Government in accordance with MCI guidelines which say that the upper age limit of Director can be relaxed up to 70 years, it further clarified.
