Imphal, August 29:
Following strict instructions from the State Home Department police swung into action and erased the words South Nagaland which were written in many hoardings, sign boards and name plates of shops, hotels etc.
in Mao, Senapati and Tamenglong and erased all the words, said police reports reaching here said.
Reports said the word "South Nagaland" was however not inscribed at Government offices.
Meanwhile the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has reacted very strongly against the reported erasing of the word "Government of Manipur" and inserting the word "Southern Nagaland" or "Nagaland" in its place at many places in the hill districts.
In a statement, the MPP questioned whether "such moves to disintegrate the State" has the tacit approval of the Governor and further queried what the respective Deputy Commissioners were doing when the words were put up.
Alleging that Naga organizations are hell bent on creating misunderstanding and distrust amongst the people of the State the party urged the Governor to act immediately and try to stop such activities.
