Imphal, April 21:
Clarifying that Longjam Guneshwor s/o L Jugeshwor died while in its custody, the UNLF has accused the deceased for repeated attempts to outrage modesty of Chaobi w/o Sapam Birjit when her husband was away from home.
Chaobi resides in a piece of plot bought from Guneshwor in the immediate neighbourhood of his own home.
A statement issued by UNLF's Senior Publicity Officer Ksh Yoiheiba disclosed that the latest attempt to outrage the modesty of the woman was on December 15 last year.
On this occasion, Chaobi's husband Birjit made a complaint to the local club.
However, the club could not take up any action rather it published about the incident in newspapers.
Eventually, a complaint in this regard reached the UNLF.
In response to the complaint, UNLF summoned both Guneshwor and Chaobi.
During preliminary interrogation, Guneshwor confessed to his immoral acts and intentions.
He also agreed to buy back the plot sold to Birjit, conveyed Yoiheiba.
The arrangement was made to facilitate Birjit and Chaobi shift to some other place.
But, against the understanding, one brother-in-law (elder) of Guneshwor posing himself as commando Krishnatombi and Mobi threatened the couple through the mobile phone of Birjit.
The threat calls were made from mobile phones bearing nos 9856259645, 9856357314 and 9862046633, disclosed Yoiheiba.
Consequent upon his acts of challenging the UNLF, Guneshwor was again summoned by the Central Special Force (CSF) of the UNLF.
But Guneshwor, rather than complying with the summon, sent his wife.
When he was called up for the third time, he showed up with another namesake on April 11.While Guneshwor was held back, his namesake was allowed to go back.
On account of his failure to cooperate properly with CSF cadres during interrogation, Guneshwor suffered some thrashing.
At about 11 pm of April 11, Guneshwor complained of chest pain at which he was given treatment.
But after a short time he succumbed to his ailment.
Investigation by CSF has also discovered that there were instances of Guneshwor making similar immoral attempts/acts against women earlier too, asserted Yoiheiba.
A woman named Ibeyaima was forcibly betrothed to Guneshwor by the local people of Khangabok after the two were caught in a compromising position.
Moreover, he was sentenced to jail in 2002 after one of his friend Ibosana who went to Guwahati together with him was found dead there in connection with a case related to illicit affair.
Such men of immoral character are sources of social ailments that may degrade the entire society, concluded Yoiheiba.
