Imphal, April 21:
Taking strong exception to the alleged picking up of its cadre Lamneigin alias Thangboi Vaiphei by personnel of 32 AR on April 11 and subsequent elimination of the cadre, the KLA/KLO has accused the Assam Rifles of violating the Suspension of Operation (SOO) agreement.
A statement issued by the Central Information and Publicity Secretary of the outfit Malsawm Vaiphei maintained that Lamneigin Vaiphei was picked up from Molnom village, Sadar Hills in broad daylight where he went to welcome a visiting an AR troop.
Quoting eye witnesses, Malsawm conveyed that the deceased even shook hands with the commander of the visiting AR troop.
However, in response to his friendly gesture, Lamneigin was frisked.
With the recovery of a pistol and a radio set which was reportedly given to him for self protection, the AR personnel took him away before he was murdered in a fake encounter.
Reacting strongly to the attempt of the AR authority to cover up the alleged criminal act and the misleading statement published in media, Malsawm Vaiphei noted that it us up to the AR authority whether to accept the fact or stand to lose the trust of all Kuki UG groups.
With such a casual attitude of the AR authority towards the SOO agreement, and their personnel openly violating the truce, the KLA/KLO asked whether it would be feasible to enforce the SOO agreement or does the AR still deserve trust of Kuki UG groups.
