Imphal, July 13 2015 :
Although the Govt has decided to withdraw the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers (MRVTMW) Bill, 2015, it had not mentioned anything about the Sapam Robinhood, who died in police action against protesters demanding withdrawal of the Bill, Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy Students' Union today said.
Addressing media persons today at Majorkhul, general secretary of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy Students' Union, Surjit Sagolsem said that the union strongly condemns the Govt for allegedly sidelining the issue of the deceased student.
Urging the authority concerned to reopen educational institutions within 24 hours, the Students' Union warned to close down permanently schools where students are denied education due to the closure of the schools.
He said that the Union will join any agitation launched by the Students Wing of JCILPS.
Vehemently condemning the police action against unarmed student protesters demanding the implementation of ILPS in Manipur on July 8 resulting in the killing of Sapam Robinhood, the Students' Union today termed the police act as savage.
Surjit Sagolsem said that the police, who are protectors of the public, were not supposed to fire rubber bullets and tear gas shells at close range on protesters.
The union also strongly denounced the alleged indifferent attitude of the Dept concerned for failing to take up any action against the personnel involved in the killing and the officers concerned.
Surjit further said that action against the personnel might have been taken immediately had the victim been the son or relative of any Minister or MLA.
He demanded fitting action against the police personnel involved in the killing and immediate passing of a Bill for the protection of indigenous people.
Conveying that they are ready to launch any form of agitation if the demands are not fulfilled, the Union also paid their homage to the departed student.
He also said that he has been moving from one place to the other the July 8 incident to evade arrest as police have been searching for him.
Surjit and some students were kept inside a room by the police on the day the protest incident took place on July 8.They jumped down from the window, he said.
Pointing out that police commandos are constantly after him, Surjit urged the Govt to look into the matter and take up necessary steps.
